How can I use an external chat client?

No there is no detailed error message. I have now lowered my security level and i still have the same proble. Where do you find the security cert.

I heard mention of avoiding multiple sign ons from the same IP that could get your chat account banned. We have a Home Portal or Home Network which shares an Internet connection. Both the wife and I sometimes log into jmeeting at the same time and chat with others from our own computers. Are we going to get banned because it appears as a multiple sign on or because we have the same IP? This is actually fun and we both enjoy doing this at times but we don't want to be banned.

G'day Guys,
I tried logging in today and received a System Error alert as follows:
"Java.lang.NoclassDefFoundError
com/jmeeting/plugin/chat/jmeetingChatPlugin"
I rebooted, reinstalled Jmeeting, updated java and DirectX and am still getting the same message. The banner advises that if the error persists, it has, to contact you guys... so I am.
The only thing that I have done out of the ordinary was to try to access the alpha site....got the same error message there as well.
STILL CAN'T ACCESS CHAT IN EITHER JMEETING STANDARD OR ALPHA

This question has been posted a many times and in many ways. The most watered down version is "how can I get chat working?" I've applied the suggested solutions in this forum and other forums, but to no avail. Here's an illustration of what I see when I click on the "pen" icon":

At the bottom is a yellow circle status icon of an exlamation point (which I seem to be able to change my status), and my rating icon next to that (also changeable), and the status bar which actively progresses from beginning to end over and over and over and over la-la la-la la-la la-la... etc.

I can select any of the icons in the chat server tree, then right click and open a status box, but nothing is displayed. If I type something into the input line and press enter, it appears in the main pane a "[pencilPaperIcon] <unregistered> /Text I just entered." The interesting thing is that the text I just entered is prepended by a forward slash. I can also select preferences and make changes, but the default settings appear OK and nothing really looks like it needs to be changed. The External IP is my private LAN IP (192.168.x.x). (Does this need to be my gateway IP? Is jMeeting NAT aware, or does it care?)

Bottom line... can't get chat to work. Pleeeeease... for the love of meeting nekkid people online, someone please interpret this and respond with a solution! ;-) Thanks. :-)

I seem to be having the same problem others are having. I get into jmeeting via the web site and I get the cams but I get a green check connecting, and then a red x error in the Chat Server section. This happens both from my work (on a LAN) and at home (on a dialup). I've uninstalled and re-installed Java. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

XP service pack 2 upgrade, no chat rooms anymore

I have reinstalled Windows yesterday and upgraded to XP service pack 2. But now I have the problem that more people seem to have, I do see the webcams, but get an error in the chatroom connections. I have enable and disabled the Windows Firewall, which comes with SP2, but nothing helped yet. The hardware configuration is exactly the same as before, when I had no problems whatsoever.

Any suggestions on which option or whatever to switch on or off in WinXP SP2?

Until recently I have been able to access jmeeting OK but now I have to turn off my firewall. I can set up a rule but need to know trigger port trigger type (TCP or UDP), public port and public type. Means nothing to me but hope it does to you!

I read most of the things you sugested and tryed them mostly. First of all i have to network cards i cant take them off. and my java platform 2 1.5 and i tried 1.004 didnt work out no problem with connection or webcams but just the chat. Actually i would try irc.jmeeting.com but explorer refused to open the page and i was fed up trying can you please help me so i can chat and enjoy jmeeting .

When i try to chat, chat server says connecting ok, connecting ok, and error in nickname.When I right click on status, it says erroneus nickname, illegal characters. It used to work and the web cams work. Any ideas?

Looking back over previous posts, I see there has been a common problem with an error connecting to the Chat-Server. Well, to date I have downgraded to previous versions of Java, only to find on restarting and running Jmeeting, it requires a minimum version much higher than the version suggested!!! Having ten reinstalled the version suggested by Jmeeting, I still have the problem of the red 'x' error underneath the 'connecting' green tick on the chat tab. Somebody, somewhere must have the answer to this? I am running Windows XP Pro. If anyone is good enough to offer a reply to this plea for help, please remember that we are not all technicians/programers, so an idiot guide for an idiot would be welcome. Many thanks in advance :)

Well I can login fine using mIrc, but then nickserv pops up complaining my nick is already registered.

Sending my account password does no good, nor can I recover or set a password inside the java client because nickserv complains about syntax all the time.

I dont know what happened but i used to come on site to see between 80 to 150 girls now i only see maybe 20 and i can not enter chat rooms. When I click on the pen icon it comes up with "Connecting" "Connected" and then "You are banned". Whats up with that am I really banned I haven't done anything wrong to be banned, least nothing I know of. There seems to be a lot less people on Jmeeting and this has been going on for a few days now. What is going on with Jmeeting? The chat dont work, is says that I am banned. When I click on "you are banned" and get status... It says that "too many virus infected users matches your host, please enable identd."
What does this mean? how do we fix this?

You obiviously have a problem with the chat portion of your site. Someone has gotten in, either your end or the user's end, and has screwed with the code or dropped in a bug. It would be nice if you just recognized the problem and let your user's know your working on it. Thanks

I can successfull login, can see the cams but can't chat anymore. Last week it works fine.

I use java 1.5.

I normally use the stand alone version of JMeeting, but will occasionally access via Firefox. I was on and chatting just fine the other day with no problems. Today I get on and under chat-server it says, "You are banned". When I check the status it says, "Too many open hosts used for abuse. Run identd and Contact your ISP.

What does this mean? Are the hosts it's referring to the computers on my home network? My wife and I both have paid accounts and will get on and chat together. Are we really banned from JMeeting because our computers are networked? If this is the case, what about a refund for not being able to use two paid accounts?

What's the deal here?

How do I overcome the issue of being banned? The status reads:
Too many open hosts used for abuse. Run identd and contact your ISP. I have been using JMeeting since the beginning and do not have the original email with my identd, therefore can not re-run it. I have no idea about the abuse part. I don't abuse this service.

Is there a way to do this in the java chat? It'd be nice to put the ops from my regular channel into an exception list so they can message me, even when I'm DND.

so... there was that dude claiming to have goten my ip .. even though he didn't wanted to say the ip ...
he kept bashing around ...and then he said he got my ip
... i mean clearly this guy was joking... but i then checked with netstat.... and could only find 2 connections TCP and 1 udp aparently involved with this

my question is,
is all data is send to server first... and deployed from there?... especially PM?
